QUOTE:

“No one calls my office on a good day. They call when the unimaginable has happened and they need someone in their corner. I never forget how vulnerable that moment is, and I treat my clients’ trust as sacred. My job is to shoulder the legal burden so they can focus on what matters most healing and moving forward. And I love my job.”

Julie is a civil litigator and trial attorney who fights for people when they need it most.

Other lawyers frequently refer clients to Julie because she is known for her thoughtfulness, creativity, tenacity and compassionate approach to guiding clients through the legal process. She represents individuals harmed by defective products and medical malpractice, families seeking justice after the wrongful death of a loved one, and people and small businesses victimized by fraud, insurance bad faith, or breaches of fiduciary duty. She routinely secures multi-million dollar recoveries for her clients.

Julie’s litigation work has earned national recognition. She was selected for the American Board of Trial Advocates (ABOTA) National Trial College at Harvard University in 2016, and two years later joined the ABOTA faculty as a Teaching Fellow at Yale University. The National Trial Lawyers Association has named her to its Top 40 Under 40, recognizing the leading civil plaintiff trial lawyers under 40 in each state. For the past several years, she has been recognized in the annual Super Lawyers publication. Since 2022, she has been recognized by Best Lawyers in the practice areas of Commercial Litigation and Personal Injury Litigation. In 2021, South Carolina Lawyers Weekly honored her as a Leadership in Law recipient. In 2025, she was named as a South Carolina Influential Women of Law honoree.

Beyond her legal practice, Julie is deeply committed to her profession, her community, and mentoring younger lawyers. The South Carolina Bar previously named her Young Lawyer of the Year for her contributions. For many years, she served on the board of directors for Charleston Legal Access, a local nonprofit law firm that provides access to justice for people who cannot afford to hire an attorney. She was formerly a member of the City of Charleston’s Commission on Women. She has served on the board of Special Olympics South Carolina, chaired the Torts and Insurance Practice Section Council of the South Carolina Bar, contributed to the editorial board of SC Lawyer magazine, and taught as adjunct faculty at the Charleston School of Law.

Julie is married to Thomas Rode and they have two young children and an old but sprightly dachshund.
