Margaret Scalise Johnson focuses her practice on complex litigation, representing individuals and businesses who have suffered harm. She works on cases in the areas including medical malpractice, commercial litigation, and catastrophic injury. Margaret earned her Juris Doctor from the University of South Carolina School of Law, graduating cum laude and receiving the John R. Holland Scholarship Award for her academic achievement, community leadership, and commitment to the profession. She was also selected as a student member of the John Belton O’Neall Inn of Court. She holds a summa cum laude undergraduate degree from Clemson University.
Before joining Duffy & Young, Margaret worked at a nationally recognized mass tort litigation firm, where she handled complex cases involving large-scale personal injury and product liability claims. Prior to entering private practice, she served as a Judicial Law Clerk to the Honorable William H. Seals, Jr., where she supported the court in a broad range of civil and criminal matters. In her practice at Duffy & Young, Margaret draws on her background in litigation and trial preparation to advocate for clients facing serious legal challenges. Further, Margaret has trained at the Mark Lanier Trial Academy and to focus on her skills as a civil litigator and trial attorney dedicated to securing justice for her clients.
Margaret is actively involved in the legal and local community. She serves on the Board of the South Carolina Women Lawyers Association and is a member of the Charleston County Bar Association, South Carolina Association for Justice, and the American Bar Association. A South Carolina native, Margaret lives in Mount Pleasant with her husband, Josh Johnson, and is a member of First Baptist Church of Mount Pleasant.
